Treme Drawing Closer
Treme is drawing closer to it’s April launch date. I haven’t updated the site for a while due to a lack of Treme news, but there have been a few new developments recently.
Of most interest is the fact that the Treme website has now launched at HBO.com. It includes the details of the cast, more background information, and information on a Treme hashtag on Twitter.

Great Salon Article on Treme
“In a move that could boost the city’s psyche and pump millions into its economy, cable giant HBO is developing a new TV drama to be set in the New Orleans music community.
Treme will be the backdrop of the latest HBO series set to be directed by television mastermind David Simon.
“Treme,” named after the iconic New Orleans neighborhood where many musicians live, will marry one of television’s most prestigious networks with creator David Simon, one of television’s hottest series masterminds.

Interview with Clark Peters, mentions Treme
“Without giving too much away, it’s about how culture is reclaimed through musicians and chefs. What do I play? An upright bass. In the wake of the disaster, you can imagine David exercising his right to comment on a whole bunch of stuff. Some people will get it in the neck, some in the knees.”

After Katrina, musically rich Treme is shrinking
“The neighborhood that produced Louis Armstrong, Trombone Shorty and Uncle Lionel Batiste among others is shrinking. The Laffite housing complex , part of Treme, is gone, one of the four brick housing complexes that survived the storm, but were inexplicabily demolished after Katrina, giving their residents no place to come home to live in New Orleans.”
“David Simon, the genius behind the HBO series “The Wire”, is now shooting a new HBO series called “Treme” about life among musicians struggling to put their post-Katrina lives back together. HBO says it expects the series to start in fall 2010. The show has added to the influx of actors , writers, photographers and technical crews now calling New Orleans home, while shooting the many movies and shows in the Big Easy. These newcomers to the city can often be found listening to the musicians in the city with knowledge of the performers often exceeding that of a longtime local.”

April launch for Treme
HBO announced an April launch for “Treme,” the New Orleans-set drama from “The Wire” creator David Simon on Thursday, and officially renewed the Louisiana-set Vampire drama “True Blood.”
Simon shot the pilot for “Treme,” set in the city’s second-line and Mardi Gras Indian scene, earlier this year in New Orleans. Production on the rest of the first season is expected to begin in November

George Pelecanos on Obama, his favorite TV shows, and new HBO series “Treme
What can you tell us about the new TV series that HBO has acquired?
It’s primarily about musicians returning to their neighborhood four months after the hurricane and trying to rebuild their lives. It will also have cool music with the hottest New Orleans musicians. The show will have the realistic tone of ‘The Wire’ minus the drug crime.
What will you do?
I’ve written one episode and will do more. I was asked to produce, but I have a family and can’t move to New Orleans for seven months. It was tempting. I’ve been hanging out there, and it’s a city that gets in your blood very quickly.
